Eligibility Requirements

Who Can Apply

By the scholarship deadline, you must be confirmed and enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in biomedical engineering. Preference is given to applicants whose academic goals connect engineering or science with mental health, behavioral health, addiction recovery, neuromodulation, mindfulness, cancer survivorship, rehabilitation, or patient-centered care. This scholarship continues Cody Moxam’s commitment to brain health.
  • Enrolled (or confirmed) in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Preferably studying biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field
  • Academic goals that connect engineering or science with human health
  • Aspiration to improve quality of life for underserved or vulnerable populations

The Essay Prompt

Biomedical engineering sits at the intersection of science, engineering, and medicine, with the potential to transform patient care through innovation. However, the most impactful advances often arise when technical expertise is combined with a deep understanding of human health needs and a commitment to improving lives.
Essay Question (750 to 1,000 words)

Describe a biomedical engineering challenge or unmet healthcare need that inspires you. Explain how your academic experiences, research, design projects, clinical exposure, community involvement, or personal experiences have shaped your interest in addressing this challenge.

In your response, discuss:
  • A specific healthcare problem, patient population, or biomedical engineering challenge that you believe deserves greater attention.
  • How your experiences have prepared you to contribute toward solving this problem.
  • A project, research experience, design effort, leadership role, or service activity that demonstrates your initiative, creativity, and commitment to impact.
  • Your long-term goals in biomedical engineering and how you hope your work will improve human health.
